Presentation ceremony of the awards of the Col·legi de Biòlegs de Catalunya to two projects of the Biodiversity Research Institute

UB graduates Ainhoa López and Guillem Izquierdo have been honored by the Col·legi de Biòlegs de Catalunya in the framework of the first edition of the award for final degree theses. With this initiative, the Col·legi wants to distinguish academic excellence and promote the progress of biology, the scientific and technical development of the profession, as well as value its service to society.

The prizes of the first edition of the award were presented this Monday, November 20, in an event held at the Faculty of Sciences of the University of Girona (UdG), with the presence of the dean of the Faculty of Sciences, Mònica Iglesias, in addition to the dean and vice-dean of the College of Biologists, Lluís Tort and Jordi Carreras.

The student of the Genetics Section Ainhoa López receives this distinction for the study "The importance of using different restriction enzymes in population genomics", under the co-direction of professors Marta Pascual and Cinta Pegueroles, from the Department of Genetics, Microbiology and Statistics and the Biodiversity Research Institute (IRBio) of the UB. In turn, Guillem Izquierdo, also a student of the aforementioned Section, has been distinguished for the work "Population genomics of the most threatened seabird in Europe: the Balearic bald eagle (Puffinus mauretanicus)", which has been coordinated by the experts Julio Rozas, Marta Riutort and Joan Ferrer, from the aforementioned Department

After this first edition of the CBC Award for the best doctoral thesis 2023 and the five CBC awards for the best end-of-degree project 2023, the call for nominations for 2024 is now open.

The Col·legi de Biòlegs de Catalunya (CBC) is a corporation under public law that establishes the meeting point for Biology professionals with mandatory registration to practice the profession. All graduates in biology can be members, and those with official degrees who accredit a substantial common core with the biology degree. The Col·legi currently has more than 2,700 professionals.
