Historical biogeography of the Mediterranean basin. Dynamics of colonization and speciation on oceanic islands. Systematics and evolution of the cave fauna.

I hold a Bachelor of Science degree in Environmental Biology from the Autonomous University of Barcelona (Spain), which included an exchange program at the San Francisco de Quito University (USFQ) (Ecuador), and a Master of Science degree in Sustainable Development from the University of Utrecht (The Netherlands). For the last four years I have been involved in assessing the accountability of petroleum corporations regarding environmental liabilities and their effect on the environment in the Peruvian context. I am currently working on updating an integrated spatial assessment model that constructs the first global atlas of unburnable oil resources and also working on the operationalisation of social and equity criteria in leaving fossil fuels underground. My various contributions have been approached from interdisciplinary methodologies, including geographical information systems, literature reviews, environmental forensics, and community-based monitoring systems.

Our main research interest is to characterize the major events and processes creating and shaping the diversity and distribution of living organisms. With this objective, we are using as model organisms freshwater and terrestrial planarians in two hotspots of biodiversity: The Mediterranean basin and the Atlantic Forest of Brazil. Through collaborations with other research teams, other study organisms have also been incorporated into our focus, such as birds or whales, expanding the range of possibilities for the evolutionary study of different taxa.

Behavioral mechanisms in evolutionary biology and behavioral aspects related to the conservation and management of species. The common quail, the badger and the lowland gorilla are used as a model species, and are analyzed both from a theoretical and applied aspects, the use of space, orientation and navigation, mating systems, social structure and emerging diseases , ecotourism and hunting management of migratory species.

Mi investigación se centra en entender los mecanismos genéticos responsables de la aparición de nuevas estructuras. Para hacerlo uso como modelo la efímera Cloeon dipterum donde estudio las rede génicas implicadas en la formación del ojo turbanado.

Biosystematics of vascular plants of the western Mediterranean. Reproductive biology of vascular plants in the western Mediterranean, with special attention to the biology of endemic species of small populations.

She’s currently working in the long-term monitoring program of Catalan Natural Parks (Montgrí, Medes Islands and Baix Ter Natural Park and Cap de Creus Natural Park), in the north western Mediterranean coast. Her main duties are focused on scuba diving field work, data analyses with R program and writing scientific reports.

My main research line focuses on specialization and structuring as resilience modulators of large cetacean populations. Specifically, I am studying the potential drivers of fin whales baleen plates isotopic variation in the North Atlantic, such as climate cycles and reproductive stage.

Marine phycology (macroalgae). Florisitic and phytosociological studies of population or phytobenthic communities of the Mediterranean. Biosystematic studies of different taxonomic groups focused on the implementation of the 'Flora Iberica Phycologica. Crops in germination chambers of early stage development of germ cells to give birth. Cytogenetic studies on the quantification of nuclear DNA from marine macroalgae.

Mi tesis doctoral se centra en el análisis del estado de conocimiento de los insectos acuáticos en la Península Ibérica, detectando zonas que pueden albergar diversidad desconocida, así como identificar a las especies más vulnerables al cambio global y proponer áreas prioritarias para su conservación.
