Effects of Climate Change on the seabird community of Cabo Verde
Climate change is having disparate effects on the demography, distribution, phenology and feeding ecology of seabirds. However, most studies have been focused on polar and subpolar populations, whereas potential effects on tropical populations remain poorly known. The project will address those gaps by (1) modeling the distribution of the 8 seabird species breeding in Cabo Verde; (2) projecting the distribution in the future under several scenarios of global warming; (3) modeling adult survival of the species in relation to SST and related variables; (4) assessing changes in diet through the analyses of stable isotopes. This will be possible thanks to a huge unprecedented international effort (2007-2022), during which the entire seabird community has been spatially tracked (geolocators, GPS), monitored through CMR and biologically sampled (blood and feathers).
