Service learning is a methodology based on the needs, problems or real challenges that can be found in the near and far context. Service learning begins with an analysis and criticism of the reality to determine which intervention can be carried out by the students to improve the detected deficiencies. 

Learning

Service learning promotes the acquisition of contents and skills that are linked to the academic knowledge of the undergraduate courses that are taking the students. The aim is to seek and generate the knowledge that will allow the students to intervene in the previously identified needs acording to a theoretical and practical framework.

Service

Service learning is a methodology that is not only limited to identify the needs and acquire knowledge but to involve the students in providing a service to the community. With the term service we mean doing an activity linked to the future career of these students. This activity produces a beneffit that is freely delivered to the community.

Partnership

Service learning requires intense collaboration between social organizations and universities in order to face together the needs from the context, to define the services that can be useful and to do research that uses the potencialities from both.

Reflection

Reflection is a learning mechanism based on the experience that has been lived by the student and oriented to optimise the understanding of the reality. Reflexion emphasizes the social meaning of the service, the personal and emotional impact that it may cause, the evaluation of the theories that have been considered and the results that have been obtained.

Recognition

Service learning is a teaching methodology and for this reason it should have the same consideration than any other educational activity. The students are evaluated and get a grade or some credits for the work that has been done.
