Welcome to the web of the Department of Physiology and Immunology

The Department of Physiology and Immunology of the University of Barcelona consists of two areas of knowledge, Physiology and Immunology, which are independent in both teaching and research.

The Department of Physiology and Immunology carries out its teaching in all the degrees offered by the School of Biology: Biology, Environmental Sciences, Biotechnology, Biochemistry and Biomedical Sciences. It also participates in the Chemistry degrees. This department also coordinates three official Masters degrees: Integrative Physiology, Advanced Immunology and Aquaculture. The department also collaborates in the Masters in Biomedical Engineering (inter-universitary), Biodiversity and Biotechnology and Biomedicine. At the doctorate degree level, the faculty is involved in the Aquaculture, Physiology and Biomedicine PhDs, the latter two with recognition in excellence.

Research in the area of ​​Physiology focuses on different aspects regarding the regulation and growth of fish in aquaculture, in the physiology of exercise and hypoxia and in oxidative stress. It collaborates with other faculty groups and research centers on aspects regarding pathologies associated to membrane transporters, free radicals in biology and medicine, neurodegeneration and neuroreparation, and fish physiology and genomics.

The area of ​​immunology has focused its research mostly on the biology of macrophage and collaborates  with other groups on aspects of cellular and molecular neuroreparation and neurodegeneration, autoimmunity and diabetes, inflammatory and immune response.
