The Historical Archive of the University of Barcelona

The Historical Archive guards and retains custody of documentation that attests to the activity of the University of Barcelona throughout its history, with the aim of providing access to this rich heritage and make it available to researchers and the general public.

Services

The staff at the Historical Archive provides support to facilitate the consultation of the records at the University of Barcelona, as well as to obtain copies of documents or to request documents on loan. Refer to the Services section for more information.

 

Activities

The University of Barcelona is a member of the International Council on Archives (ICA), the international organization of reference in archive matters, created in 1948 with a presence in over two hundred countries. In 2015, the University of Barcelona signed the Universal Declaration on Archives (UDA), developed by the ICA and promoted in Catalonia by the Association of Archivists and Records Managers from Catalonia. The adhesion to the Declaration contributes to improving the understanding and awareness of archives and archivists among the general public. This underlines the strategic relevance of archives and records management for the University of Barcelona.

 

Exhibitions

Throughout the year, the records and collections included in the Historical Archive are disseminated through thematic exhibitions available online and news articles are published about projects and events from the archives of the University of Barcelona. On 9 June, International Archives Day, several records samples are presented and open to the public, so they can be visited at the UB archives. With attendance to seminars and conferences organized by various professional associations in the field, the staff helps publicize the functions of the archives of the University of Barcelona among the archivist collective.
