SESSION 9 - Experimental flint knapping
Impact fractures: an experimental procedure
Morphologically standardized lithic arrowheads - showing two alternate backed edges in order to avoid any archaeological resemblance - have been produced; more, the aim of their function is to penetrate into the target and not to cut it. The results allow to advance new insights into the projectile world. Experimental results have been compared to the Gravettian lithic assemblage coming from the Riparo Mochi (Balzi Rossi, Grimaldi caves, Italy) where hundreds of backed points have been found.
