Researchers from the University of Barcelona, the Online Biomedical Research Center on Physiopathology of Obesity and Nutrition and the Fun-C-Food project (Consolider Ingenio program) have found that a moderate consume of red wine improves gut microbiota due to the effect of polyphenols. According to the study, published in the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition, these compounds help maintain a balanced intestinal flora, that in turn, can protect against conditions such as intestinal disorders, inflammatory diseases, cancer and obesity, among others.
