In the Mediterranean Sea there are more turtles than we might think. However, the loggerhead turtle lives threatened by the advance of tourism and the bycatch. Approximately 10% of the population of turtles ends caught on the hooks of a longliner. Although the fishermen return them to the sea, almost half of these turtles die. Lluis Cardona, researcher in the Animal Biology Department of the University of Barcelona (UB), tells us how to release a captured animal, as well as some solutions designed to reduce the bycatch of turtles.
