Flint sources and their usage in Sardinia: recent advances
In Sardinia, provenance studies of lithic raw materials have long been focused on obsidian. For about ten years, studies dedicated to flint have been developed and have widened our understanding of lithic procurement, circulation and techno-economy during the Sardinian Neolithic. Our approach is based on a robust knowledge of Sardinian flint sources and on the analysis of lithic materials from well documented and dated sites.
The analysis of knapped flint artifacts focused on 20 sites from the Early to Final Neolithic. The study provides a better insight into the role of flint in Sardinian lithic assemblages throughout the Neolithic and highlights development usage over time and according to site locations.
