PhD in Philosophy, Universitat de Barcelona
Helga Jorba holds a PhD from the University of Barcelona with a thesis on the legacy of Moisès Maimònides, under the direction of professors Fina Birulés and À. Lorena Fuster and has been a predoctoral researcher at the Department of Philosophy of the University of Barcelona, beneficiary of an APIF-UB grant. She has a degree in Political and Administration Sciences and a Master’s degree in Political Science from the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona. She did a postgraduate degree in Historical Materialism and Critical Theory from the Universitat Complutense de Madrid. Her research focuses on Maimonides’ understanding of knowledge and transmission through the study of his notion of prophecy, divine providence or idolatry, as well as its reception in modern secular societies.
She was a visiting researcher at the Department of Hebrew Culture of the Tel Aviv University (with a grant from the Israel Foreign Affairs Ministry) and at the Department of Philosophy of Northwestern University. Her research also focuses in the issue of secularization and cultural assimilation (i.e. Rahel Varnhagen and Salomon Maimon) and the notion of guilt through the uses of the Adamic story.
