INTRODUCTION AND CONCEPT OF THE DISCUSSIONS
These discussions originated from 8 AM breakfasts that four friends, passionate about our profession—three of whom were my former students—held in the bar of the Faculty of Pharmacy at the University of Barcelona. During these breakfasts, we would discuss incidents, news, and new decrees related to the pharmaceutical industry.
These student friends were José Maria Adalid, Rafael Beaus, and Ramón Esquerdo, three great professionals in the pharmaceutical industry, without whom we would not have been able to inaugurate the “Discussions with Professor Ramon Salazar’s Friends.”
In the first official discussion, I outlined the purpose of these meetings, saying: “With you, we will reach the ends of the earth, that is, to better understand all the scientific, technological, and legal processes related to medicine, and our friendship can be eternal.”
These discussions are a gathering of friends, professionals from the pharmaceutical chemical industry, who are interested in learning and sharing their knowledge.
There is no financial or political interest involved; the only interest is to continue being friends and, through these discussions, to improve both scientifically and personally.
From the studies carried out during these technological breakfasts, the following conclusions were reached:
The discussions will be held quarterly, on the first Thursday afternoon of the month, from 7 to 9 PM.
- The attendees of the discussions must be friends of Professor Ramon Salazar.
- The number of participants must be limited.
- The meetings should be democratic, and everyone present can give their opinion, meaning there should be open dialogue. It should not be forgotten that the protagonists are all the participants.
- Each discussion will have a secretary or person responsible for writing the session summary, who will be succeeded by another participant according to the alphabet.
- The discussions will take place in a classroom at the Faculty of Pharmacy of the University of Barcelona.
- It is proposed to invite a notable figure from the pharmaceutical industry to each discussion—understood as someone who we believe knows more about the topic we decide to address, including the participating friends.
- Before and during the discussion, there will be a snack, and participants can get up, eat, and drink during the talk/conference, so that it truly feels like a discussion among friends.
- The invited guest should not deliver a formal lecture but rather a talk of no more than 30 minutes, during which interventions are allowed, but the most interesting points will be discussed over coffee.
- The topics to be debated in each discussion, as well as the speaker, will be discussed in previous discussions to ensure consensus among those present.
- The primary language will be Spanish, in case there are any colleagues or friends who do not fully understand Catalan.
After two years since the first discussion, we believe it is time to please all my friends who may be interested in following our discussions. Therefore, this website has been created to give them free access to learn about our discussions, make comments, and stay in contact with us—that is, with the professor’s friends.
