Dr Rocío Nogales Muriel awarded the 7th ENCATC Research Award on Cultural Policy and Cultural Management

Rocío Nogales Muriel, PhD graduate in Sociology at the UB School of Sociology and researcher of the CECUPS grouphas won the 2020 ENCATC Research Award on Cultural Policy and Cultural Management Prize for her thesis “Social Transformation and Social Innovation in the field of culture: The case of SMart model and its adaptation across Europe“. 

Dr Nogales Muriel explains in her thesis, directed by Teresa Montagut, how in a context of economic, political, social and environmental transitions, SMart, a cultural and artistic social enterprise (CASE) has developed a relevant model to contribute mitigating the structural labour precariousness of artists and creators. She published one of the papers that constitute the thesis Comunes y nuevas institucionalidades en el arte y la cultura: ¿hacia una soberanía y democracia cultural? at Revista Iberoamericana de Economía Solidaria e Innovación Socioecológica: RIESISE, Vol. 2, 2019, págs. 77-102. 

The winner of the 7th ENCATC Research Award, the only international recognition for excellence of emerging researchers in cultural policy and cultural management research, was revealed on November 11ththe last day of the 2020 ENCATC Digital Congress “Cultural management and policy in a post-digital world – navigating uncertainty”. “I would like to thank ENCATC and members of the Award’s international jury for maintaining this opportunity for early career researchers”, Dr Rocío Nogales Muriel said during the ceremonywould also like to recognise my fellow finalists for the inspiring work they are conducting, I was so honoured to be part of this talented group of women”, expressed. 

She will have her work published in the ENCATC Book Series on Cultural Management and Cultural Policy Education by the international publishing group Peter Lang based in Switzerland.
