They will share the class with around 25 other students coming from around the world. Last year, Europeans represented the 47% of the class. Students from the Americas accounted for 21%, followed by Asia and Middle East/Africa, with 18% and 14% respectively. Candidates can expect to find a majority colleagues with a background in Economics, while others hold a degree in Business, Engineering, Mathematics or Physics.
The PhD in Economics provides a stimulating research environment that attracts students from around the world. Most PhD students come from top universities in Europe and the Americas. An increasing proportion of students come from universities across Asia and the Middle East. The UB School of Economics has the privilege to include top academics in all the fields of Economics. Former PhD students have been placed in academic research institutions such as LSE, University of Sussex, University of Warwick, Northwestern University, Heidelberg University as well as international organisations and governmental institutions.
Both programmes are high quality degrees which are valued by employers. The MSc in Economics has been accredited with Excellence by the Universities Council and the Additional Dimension of Internationalisation with the maximum score. On the other hand, the PhD in Economics is one of only a small number of doctoral programmes in Spain to have received the Quality Award for Research Excellence from the Ministry of Education.
