Researcher Lídia Farré participated in the Economic Reactivation working group of the Commission for Social and Economic Reconstruction, created by the Congress of Deputies
On June 8, Lidia Farré, researcher at the UB, participated in the Economic Reactivation working group of the Commission for Social and Economic Reconstruction, created by the Congress of Deputies.
Farré proposed several measures to tackle the gender gap exacerbated by the Covid 19 crisis.
The measures presented are:
1) Non-transferable, and equally lengthen, parental leave permits for parents
2) Reconsideration of costs and benefits of reopening the activities at schools and nurseries
3) Promote flexible work arrangements including telecommuting, both for men and women.
4) Temporary gender quotas for the hiring and promotion of women and temporary reductions in the costs of hiring women.
Farré proposes these measures in the light of the results obtained from a statistical analysis conducted by researchers Yarine Fawaz (CEMFI), Libertad González (UPF) and Jennifer Graves (UAM). The researchers find that the measures to contain the pandemic have hit more severely the employment of women, that women have also supported a larger burden of childcare, and household tasks during the lockdown.
In the video below you can follow Farre’s intervention (2h34’) and responses to political representatives (3h27’).
