Two projects led by UB School of Economics researchers awarded RecerCaixa grants

The RecerCaixa programme has awarded two grants to fund the research projects led by UB School of Economics researchers Josep Oriol Escardíbul and Xavier Fageda, which focus on professional training and road congestion in urban areas.
The project led by Josep Oriol Escardíbul in collaboration with Antoni Josep Mora from the International University of Catalonia (UIC) will study the future needs of the professional training system in Catalonia and the measures that should be implemented in order to cover those needs. In particular, the project will analyse what skills are required by social demands and new jobs, as well as what is the current situation of the professional training.
The initiative by Xavier Fageda –in collaboration with Ricardo Flores-Fillol from the Rovira i Virgili University (URV)– will put forward measures to clear the cities focused on the regulation of access to the urban areas and internal mobility in the cities. They will also study the role that measures such as car park and regulation of spaces (e.g. low emission zones) can play to clear cities.
This year the RecerCaixa programme has allocated €1.6 million to 20 projects selected in the 2017 call for applications out of 283 that were submitted. The project led by Oriol Escardíbul has received €85,918.21 and additional €69,026.41 have been awarded to Xavier Fageda’s research.
The RecerCaixa programme provides funding for the best projects by researchers and research groups in Catalonia. The potential benefits arising from their projects should reach the public and offer solutions to social problems or generate scientific knowledge. Areas and research lines of the 2017 call for projects include Humanities and culture, Education, Public policies and Social inclusion.
