Reports on social responsibility and sustainability
Between the academic years 2008-2009 and 2017-2018 the University of Barcelona compiled an annual report on social responsibility that provided detailed information on its social, economic and environmental footprints.
In 2018-2019, the document was changed to a report on sustainability, bearing many similarities to the previous reports but with a specific focus on the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The new report describes actions undertaken over the course of the year to achieve these universal objectives and details the environmental actions previously addressed in the UB's Sustainability Plan.
From a methodological perspective, the reports on social responsibility and the new report on sustainability use the framework provided by the Global Reporting Initiative (GRI), an independent partner of the United Nations Environment Programme that created the first set of global standards for social responsibility reporting.
In 2017-2018, the decision was taken to replace the original GRI standards with an adaptation devised by the University of Barcelona in conjunction with Pompeu Fabra University. The adapted standards, completed in November 2018, provide a more suitable methodological framework for sustainability reporting in the context of the Catalan public university system.
An abbreviated print version of the report on sustainability is also published for those readers who require a less comprehensive understanding of the UB’s actions in this field.
