realTIC – Research in language teaching and learning with information and communication technologies
It is a consolidated research group, recognized by the AGAUR with the code 2021 SGR 0271, in which researchers from two Catalan universities (Universitat de Barcelona, and Universitat Oberta de Catalunya) participate.
The members of the group are interested in research on the use of ICT in language teaching. Specifically, we study the didactic processes that generate the use of ICT in language teaching in various virtual learning environments (formal and informal) with various tools (digital portfolios, blogs, wikis…), and through various modalities (face-to-face, semi-face-to-face, distance, in open courses such as MOOCs).

Joan-Tomàs Pujola Font
PhD in Applied Linguistics from the University of Edinburgh and a senior lecturer at the Department of Linguistic and Literary Education at the Faculty of Education at the University of Barcelona (UB).
He is a lecturer and member of the coordination committee of the Master’s Degree in Teacher Training of Spanish as a Foreign Language at the University of Barcelona and Pompeu Fabra
University. He currently collaborates with the Institute for Professional Development (IDP-ICE) of the UB as coordinator of the training program in digital teaching competence for HE teachers and teaches at the Master’s Degree in University Teaching for Novel Teachers. He is a member of the
DIDAL_UB consolidated teaching innovation group, of which he was coordinator from 2015 to 2022. He is the principal investigator of the realTIC consolidated research group.
His research interests focus on computer-assisted language learning (CALL), mobile learning,

Senior Lecturer in the Center for Modern Languages and the Faculty of Arts and Humanities at the Universitat Oberta de Catalunya (UOC) in Barcelona. She holds a PhD in Applied Linguistics from the University of Dublin, Trinity College. She coordinates EFL and teacher training courses in the Centre for Modern Languages at the UOC, and the subjects of Online Collaboration and Gamification in the Masters degree in Technology-mediated language teaching and learning.
Her research interests are in the area of CALL including Tandem language learning, Distance education, Online speaking interaction in the L2, online teacher training and processes that contribute to online learner engagement such as gamification.

Vicenta González Argüello
Vicenta has a degree in Hispanic Philology and a PhD in Educational Sciences. Lecturer at the Faculty of
Education (University of Barcelona), she teaches Spanish in the Degrees of Early Childhood Education and Primary Education, Analysis and Design of Materials in the Master’s Degree in Teacher Training of ELE, where she is also responsible for the Practicum. In addition, she collaborates with different ELE teacher training programs (UIMP, IC, formacionele.com, LovELE, ISD, and EOI) Her lines of research focus on reflective practice in teacher training, gamification in foreign language teaching and the use of ICT. She is a member of the realTIC consolidated research group and the DIDAL_UB
consolidated teaching innovation group. She is currently participating in a research project focused on
gamification and language teaching and in an ERASMUS project for the development of the skills of ELE teacher training internship tutors.

Jaume Batlle Rodríguez
Phd in Didactics of Language and Literature from the University of Barcelona. He is assistant lecturer in the Department of Linguistic and Literary Education (Faculty of Education-University of Barcelona) and lecturer in the Master’s Degree in Teacher Training of Spanish as a Foreign Language at the University of Barcelona and
Pompeu Fabra University. Between 2009 and 2012 he was an AECID reader at the Marie Curie-Skłodowskiej University in Lublin (Poland), teaching Spanish and foreign language didactics.
His main lines of research focus on oral interaction in the ELE classroom from the perspective of Conversation Analysis and Educational Gamification, areas in which he has published several articles and has participated in multiple conferences and teacher meetings presenting communications and workshops. He has also been a visiting researcher at several university centers, such as the University of Guanajuato (Mexico) or the University of Newcastle (United Kingdom).

Phd in Language Didactics from the University of Barcelona. She is a teacher of Spanish as a foreign language and foreign language teacher trainer. Since 2016 she has been an associate lecturer at the University of Barcelona and UNIBA, teaching subjects on ICT and ELE didactics, and as tutor of
student portfolios and Masters’ thesis in the Master’s Degree in Teacher Training of Spanish as a
Foreign Language at the University of Barcelona and Pompeu Fabra University. In addition, he
teaches Spanish as a foreign language at UABIdiomes Barcelona.
His research interests are ICT in foreign language teaching and, in particular, distance education,
online interaction and telecollaboration.

She is a teacher of the Spanish Philology section in the Primary and Early childhood degrees at the
Faculty of Education at the University of Barcelona (UB) and a contract teacher at the Università della Valle d’Aosta (Italy) in the Degree of Lingue and Communication. per l’Impresa e il Turismo.
Likewise, he teaches Sociocultural Aspects in the ELE classroom, as well as Spanish for Specific
Purposes in the ELE UNIBA-UB teacher training master’s degree, in addition to tutoring portfolios and TFMs. She is a member of the consolidated teaching innovation group DIDAL_UB based on
mobile learning and its implementation in the classroom. Between 2003 and 2017 she was a CEL
professor in the Department of Spanish Language and Literature at the Università Cattolica del Sacro
Cuore (Milan), as well as a professor and teacher trainer at the Cervantes Institute in Milan.
Her lines of research are motivation and evaluation, EFE in relation to intercultural competence and mobile learning. She has participated in multiple conferences and teacher meetings presenting
communications and workshops.

Lecturer at the Centre for Modern Languages and the Faculty of Arts and Humanities of the Universitat Oberta de Catalunya (UOC) in Barcelona. She holds a PhD in Education from the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona. She coordinates EFL and teacher training courses at the UOC’s Centre for Modern Languages. She has experience designing online language learning materials.
Her research interests are in the area of CALL, online language learner engagement, and adaptations for students with specific needs.

Lecturer in French at the Universitat Oberta de Catalunya’s Centre for Modern Languages. She was awarded her Ph.D. in Comparative British and French 19th Century Literature by the University of Exeter (United Kingdom) in 2013. Ana has experience in materials and language learning online applications design. At the UOC, Ana coordinates all the French language courses.
Her research interests revolve around learner engagement, sense of progress, goal setting, flipped learning, and gamification.

Es profesora en el departamento de Educación Lingüística y Literaria de la Facultad de Educación de la Universidad de Barcelona (UB). Es licenciada en Filología Hispánica por la Universidad de Granada y máster en Formación de profesores de ELE por la Universidad de Barcelona y la Universidad Pompeu Fabra. Ha sido profesora en el departamento de Lenguas y Culturas Europeas en la Universidad de Groningen (Países Bajos). Actualmente imparte docencia de lengua castellana en los grados de Educación Primaria y Educación Infantil, así como de Metodología en la enseñanza de ELE en el Máster de Formación de profesores de ELE de UNIBA. Ejerce también como tutora en el máster presencial de Formación de profesores de ELE de la Facultad de Educación de la UB.
Su investigación se centra en la formación de profesores y en la práctica reflexiva en comunidades de práctica docente.

Es profesora asociada en el departamento de Educación Lingüística y Literaria de la Facultad de Educación de la Universitat de Barcelona, y doctoranda en el programa Didáctica de las Ciencias, las Lenguas, las Artes y las Humanidades en este mismo departamento. Imparte la asignatura Metodología de ELE: destrezas, actividades y técnicas en el Máster oficial en Formación de Profesores de Español como Lengua Extranjera, programa en el que también es tutora del Trabajo final de Máster.
Su investigación se centra en la práctica reflexiva en la formación y desarrollo profesional continuo del profesorado de segundas lenguas.

Es lectora de español en el Departamento de Humanidades y Ciencias Sociales de la Facultad de Artes y Ciencias de la American University in Dubai (AUD). Imparte cursos en los grados de Relaciones Internacionales, Negocios Internacionales y Psicología.
Su investigación se centra en las emociones de los estudiantes de lenguas extranjeras en contextos de aprendizaje en línea. Actualmente está desarrollando una tesis doctoral sobre la ansiedad ante las lenguas extranjeras en el contexto de e-tándem.

Es filóloga hispánica por la Universidad Complutense de Madrid y profesora de español como lengua extranjera. Actualmente, trabaja como Spanish Native Language Teacher en la Escuela de Lenguas y Culturas Modernas de la Universidad de Glasgow donde imparte clases de Language Skills y conversación a alumnos de primero, segundo y cuarto año del grado de español.
Sus líneas de investigación son la gamificación de las clases de segundas lenguas y, más concretamente, el diseño de actividades gamificadas destinadas a la producción de interacciones orales en el aula y a la producción de feedback o retroalimentación proporcionada entre pares.

Es doctorante en Educación y TIC (e-learning) en la UOC (Universitat Oberta de Catalunya). Licenciada en Filología inglesa por la UB (Universitat de Barcelona), con un Posgrado en Enseñanza del inglés como lengua extranjera por la UPF (Universitat Pompeu Fabra) y Máster en Formador de Formadores: Gestión de proyectos educativos por la UPC (Universitat Politécnica de Catalunya). Desde 2020 es profesora en el Máster Universitario de Educación Bilingüe en la VIU (Universidad Internacional de Valencia, así como directora de TFMs. También es profesora de CLIL en el Grado de Magisterio en la VIU (Universidad Internacional de Valencia). Desde 2014 es profesora en la UOC (Universitat Oberta de Catalunya).

Es profesor de la Escuela de Pedagogías en Inglés de la Universidad de Talca (Chile). Es traductor inglés- alemán- español de la Universidad de Concepción y profesor de inglés de la Universidad Andrés Bello. Es máster en Lingüística Aplicada de la Universidad Católica de la Santísima Concepción. Ha impartido docencia en diferentes universidades y centros de formación técnico-profesional en Chile, principalmente en el uso de las tecnologías para la formación inicial docente.
Su investigación se centra en las percepciones de los usuarios en torno al uso de entornos mediados por realidad virtual inmersiva para el aprendizaje de lenguas adicionales.

Doctoranda en la Universidad de Barcelona bajo la beca La Caixa INPhINIT desde 2022. Graduada en Filología Hispánica y Estudios Internacionales por la Capital University (Ohio, EEUU), con un máster en Filología Hispánica enfocado en Lingüística por la St. Louis University (campus de Madrid). Ha trabajado como profesora de inglés para la Abu Dhabi Investment Authority (ADIA) y para otros programas en EEUU con alumnos de España, China y Emiratos Árabes. Esto le ha provisto de una amplia experiencia en métodos pedagógicos basados en las TIC y materiales digitales.
Su investigación se centra en el impacto de los entornos virtuales informales (particularmente los videojuegos) en el aprendizaje del inglés y sus posibles aplicaciones prácticas en la enseñanza. Esta investigación la lleva a cabo con software libre, con el fin de explorar sus implicaciones éticas y prácticas en este contexto.

Andrea has a PhD in Didactics of Sciences, Arts, Languages and Humanities, with a mention in Didactics of Languages, from the University of Barcelona. She has worked extensively in the publishing sector, designing and coordinating the creation of teaching materials in both paper and digital formats.

Pilar has a PhD in Applied Linguistics for the teaching of Spanish as a Foreign Language (ELE) from Nebrija University. She regularly collaborates with the training courses of the Cervantes Institute and the University of Santiago de Compostela. She is currently teaching at a secondary school in Reykjavík, Menntaskólinn við Hamrahlíð, and at the Faculty of Languages and Cultures of the University of Iceland, where he teaches ELE classes in the degree programs in Spanish Language and Literature and at the Center of Modern Languages.
Her field of research focuses on the development of digital learning communities, telecollaboration and the application of technology in the ELE classroom.

He has a PhD in Hispanic Philology from the University of Granada. He began teaching Spanish as a foreign language in 1991 and since then he has been Head of Studies and director of a language school. He currently directs the Clic International House center in Cádiz.
He currently coordinates the online platform for teachers of International House (formacionele.com) and is responsible for training of the Federation of Spanish Schools (FEDELE) and the Association of Spanish Schools of Andalusia (EEA). He is editor of the Cuadernos de didáctica collection of Difusión publishing house. He has also published different articles on digital learning issues and the role of the game in the second language classroom.
For ten years he has directed the podcast for Spanish teachers LdeLengua and publishes in different blogs about teacher training and its relationship with technology and gamification.

She is Full Professor of Spanish at the Internationale Hochschule SDI München, where she directs the International Master for Teachers of Spanish as a Foreign Language (ELE) and the Center for Innovation in Teaching and Learning. She has been a teacher of ELE since 1987 and since 1998 she has been dedicated to teacher training and research in language teaching.
She has a degree in English Philology from the University of Salamanca and a PhD in Pedagogy from the University of Barcelona.
Her research interests focus on the thinking of students and teachers, intercultural competence, the learning processes of trainee teachers in online environments and Spanish as a heritage language in Germany.

Susana Fernández is professor of foreign language pedagogy at the Department of Communication and Culture, Aarhus University. She is the coordinator of Spanish Studies and the head of study board at the Pedagogical Education for upper secondary school teachers in Denmark. Her research areas include Spanish grammar and foreign language pedagogy, with particular focus on pedagogical applications of Cognitive Linguistics in grammar teaching and intercultural competence. She is the coordinator of the Foreign Language Acquisition and Pedagogy Research Unit at Aarhus University.

Tony Mullen received his PhD from the University of Groningen, where he worked on applying machine learning techniques to syntactic parsing of human language. He holds a master’s degree in linguistics from Trinity College, Dublin and a bachelor’s in English literature from the University of Washington. He carried out postdoctoral research in named-entity extraction for biomedical texts at the National Institute of Informatics in Tokyo. Since 2005, he has been a faculty member in computer science departments at Tsuda College, Tokyo, then at the University of Puget Sound, and most recently at Northeastern University.

Manuela Mena holds a degree in Translation and Interpretation, a Master’s degree in Neuropsychology, and the Certificate in English Language Teaching to Adults (CELTA). CEO of the educational consultancy www.feelthelanguage.com and academic director of the language school The Language House. Manuela also works as a lecturer in the Master’s Degree in Spanish Didactics at the University of Nebrija and in the International Master’s Program for Teachers at the University of Applied Languages in Munich (SDI). Additionally, she works as a teacher trainer for the Centro Regional de Formación al Profesorado (CLM) and collaborates with the realTIC research group. He has a master’s degree in ELE from the Instituto Cervantes and the Menéndez Pelayo International University (UIMP). He teaches in the bachelor’s and master’s degrees in Hispanic Philology. He specialises in ELE Pedagogical Grammar and ELE Didactics through ICT. He also teaches in the International Master’s Program for ELE Teachers at the University of Applied Languages in Munich (SDI).
His research focuses on the use of technology to support the didactics of grammar from a cognitive perspective in Spanish as a foreign language.

Es licenciada en Filología Inglesa y Doctora en Ciencias de la Educación por la Universidad de Barcelona. Desde 1996 trabaja en el Departament d’Ensenyament de la Generalitat de Cataluña, donde coordina los exámenes de certificación de las Escuelas Oficiales de Idiomas. Ha impartido cursos de formación del profesorado en universidades e instituciones españolas y europeas. Ha publicado artículos y libros sobre evaluación y sobre el uso del Marco Europeo Común de Referencia (MECR). Colabora como experta con el Consejo de Europa en temas relacionados con el uso del MECR en contextos de docencia y evaluación.

Es catedrático de la Universidad de Barcelona desde 2003 y profesor titular del Departamento de Didáctica de la Lengua y la Literatura desde 1986. Se doctoró en Filología Inglesa en 1979 con una tesis sobre tres novelas de Nabokov, autor sobre el que tiene publicados algunos artículos y prólogos.
Está interesado en la formación de profesores de lenguas extranjeras y segundas lenguas y lenguas en la investigación sobre el discurso de profesores y hablantes no nativos de una lengua. Ha dirigido diecisiete tesis doctorales sobre estos temas.
Tiene artículos publicados sobre la dimensión educativa de la enseñanza de lenguas, sobre aspectos de la formación de profesores, sobre los discursos aportados y generados en el aula y sobre las características del discurso de hablantes con una interlengua altamente fosilizada. También ha publicado estudios sobre la competencia comunicativa y la adquisición de lenguas. Ha contribuido a la publicación de manuales para la docencia del catalán como lengua segunda, y del inglés y el castellano como lengua extranjera.

Ha dirigido proyectos de investigación sobre el uso de las nuevas tecnologías en la adquisición del lenguaje y el aprendizaje a distancia (e-learning y el aprendizaje móvil), y ha publicado artículos clave en estos campos.
