The talk will take place on Thursday, March 23rd at 10:30 a.m. in the Seminar Room of the Section of Personality, Assessment and Psychological Treatment (Department of Clinical Psychology & Psychobiology, Faculty of Psychology).

Don't miss this great opportunity to learn more about this project and how it can help prevent depression in adolescents. Attendance is free.

The abstract of the talk is the following:

The main aim of the depression prevention project was to study the efficacy of a cognitive-behavioral intervention for adolescents (adapted from the Mind and Health program by Arnarson & Craighead, 2009, 2011). Intervention manuals and assessment tools (e.g., diagnostic interviews – Kiddie-Sads, ALife and CDRS-R, and self-report questionnaires) were translated, adapted, and constructed. A follow-up of 2 years was carried out on samples of at-risk and community-based youth. Results of several cross-sectional and longitudinal studies of moderation and mediation, including efficacy results, have been published. The outputs of this project continue to be disseminated, and this youth intervention program is being studied cross-culturally (in Iceland, Greece, and Sweden).

Nowadays, a development of the aforementioned project, named SMS intervention project, has been applied in schools with adolescents and their parents. The SMS project comprises 1. a cognitive-behavioral program for adolescents, that includes 3rd wave components like compassion and mindfulness, ran during 10 weekly sessions 2. a parental program developed for the families of the aforementioned adolescents, 3. and an e-health platform (the SMS eSaúde web) that complements the face-to-face intervention, in a blended format

The programs and the e-health platform will be presented and the impact of the intervention will be discussed.
