Direction and tutoring of the doctoral thesis
The director and the tutor are assigned by the Program's Academic Committee during the student's admission process to the doctoral program and must meet the requirements established by the UB's Doctorate Regulations.
The thesis tutor is responsible for ensuring the doctoral student's interaction with the program's Academic Committee. The tutor must be a full-time professor or researcher at the linked University of Barcelona
in the program, who has at least supervised a doctoral thesis.
The director of the thesis is the most responsible for the coherence and suitability of the training activities and the impact and novelty of the thesis in its field, for the guidance in planning and for the adequacy, if applicable, to other projects and activities in which the PhD student is interested.
The Academic Committee of the program can assign two thesis supervisors as co-supervisors. A third director may also be assigned. These changes can only be accepted prior to the extension period of the doctoral thesis, under the criteria established by the UB Doctorate Regulations.
During the course of the studies, whenever there are justified reasons, a change in the direction or tutoring of the thesis may be necessary. This change can be agreed upon by the Academic Committee of the program at any point in the process in accordance with the criteria and procedure regulated in the UB Doctorate Regulations.
