«The Faculty hosts the congress The impact of Franz Kafka (1924-2024)»

For three days, prestigious speakers from all over the world will analyze the work and the imprint of the writer's work from all perspectives. Among other sessions, the founder of Fura dels Baus, Àlex Ollé, will give a talk about the staging of The Metamorfosis

On May 8, 9 and 10, the Faculty of Philology and Communication will host the 19th International Congress of the Goethe Society in Spain (SGE) under the title «The impact of Franz Kafka (1924-2024)», an initiative promoted by the Section of Germanic Studies of the Department of Modern Languages ​​and Literatures and of English Studies of the Faculty of Philology and Communication of the University of Barcelona to commemorate the centenary of the death of the writer Franz Kafka.

The Congress focuses on the impact and influence of the work of the Prague author on literature and the other arts, in the German, Spanish and Catalan speaking world. Other speakers will include professor Carolin Duttlinger, from the University of Oxford, Susanne Hochreiter from the University of Vienna, Ulrich von Bülow from Marbach, Andreas Kilcher, from the University of Zurich and Yvonne Al-Taie from the University of Kiel. The translators Miguel Sáenz, Adan Kovacsics, Isabel Hernández, Josep Murgades and Joan Ferrarons will also participate.

The program proposes a transversal analysis of the author's work and will include a talk by one of the founders of La Fura dels Baus, Àlex Ollé, about the stage set under the title «Metamorfosi, by La Fura dels Baus». It will be on May 8 at 7:00 p.m., in the teachers' room of the Josep Carner building. Ollé will talk about the representation of Fura dels Baus from The Metamorphosis and the staging of this work, and the duo Kafka Tanzt, from Vienna, will present the performance «The Bridge 1924-2024».

Apart from the Section of Germanic Studies of the Department of Modern Languages ​​and Literatures and of English Studies of the Faculty of Philology and Communication of the UB, the congress has been organized by the Goethe Society in Spain (SGE), together with the 'Association of Germanists of Catalonia (AGC) and the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD). It has the support of the Faculty of Philology and Communication of the University of Barcelona, ​​the Cultural Forum of Austria in Madrid and the Consulate General of the Federal Republic of Germany in Barcelona.
