#CICNews | “Scenic Arts”: trajectory and activities of the 2023-2024 school year
Published on 27 November, 2023
“Scenic Arts”, a subject taught by professor José Zapata, offers an approach to theater through the perspective of the cultural industries. Within the framework of the subject, not only are the diverse languages of scenic texts treated, but also the responsibilities and functions of those who manage and administer the sector. Throughout the school year several activities have been carried out so that the students can grasp the world of the scenic arts from the inside.
The first of these acts took place last October the 2nd. It was a talk by actor and director Oriol Broggi, who has a long professional record in this sector.
On October the 11th, another conference was carried out, this time by Judit Martínez. The main focus of this class was the field of cultural critique. Starting off from Martinez’s own professional experience, a diverse set of crucial topics was discussed, such as the role of young audiences and its future.
Last October the 18th, the subject’s students visited La Villarroel. They went on a tour through the entirety of the historical building, from the main floor to the backstage.
On October the 30th, the students carried out a conversation with cultural journalist and Festival RBLS’ artistic director Carme Tierz. In this talk, the guest dove deep into the internal workings of drama festivals, mainly through the lens of communications. The presence of such an active voice in the sector allowed for a very rewarding debate for the students.
Another activity took place on November the 15th: a conversation with theater and film actress Júlia Bonjoch. The talk offered an internal point of view of the process of theater realization; a profoundly valuable perspective for those who intend to work in the field of scenic arts.
The last activity was a visit to Mercat de les Flors, and it took place last November the 27th. Led by chief of production Antoni Tarrida, the students learned about the internal organization of the theater and about how shows are produced.
