Arab and Hebrew Studies

Tutorial action plan

Responsible

Margarita Castells Criballes

The teaching of Arabic and Hebrew Studies offers a tutoring service and makes it available to students with the aim of guiding them and helping them to resolve the doubts that arise during their training, in accordance with the guidelines of the University of Barcelona.

  1. Help degree students, at the beginning of their studies at the Faculty, to integrate into the university world.
  2. Stimulate their interest in the languages and literatures of the degree, and in history and culture in general.
  3. Detect and solve the problems they may encounter during their training.
  4. Attend to students with specific needs.
  5. Guide them, at the end of their studies, with a view to possible further studies and their insertion in the world of work.
  6. The tutoring service is voluntary for students but with its implementation it is expected to achieve, among other objectives, a decrease in the dropout rate and of students not appearing in the assessments.
  7. Through the tutorials, it is also expected that the sections will have information about the needs and problems of the students.

The PAT of Arabic and Hebrew Studies will be carried out by tutor teachers of the two sections. These teachers will be in contact with the students through individual and group meetings, which can be organized at the initiative of the tutor or the student concerned.

Procedure: When the PAT coordinator receives the lists of students enrolled in the course, he informs each student who his tutor is. Afterwards, the students are called to a first meeting with their tutor, where he explains the method he will use during the course.

1st year: collective presentation session

The PAT will begin with an initial collective session aimed at first-year students of the Arabic and Hebrew Studies degree. This session has the following objectives:

  1. Welcome the students.
  2. Inform them about how education works and its particularities.
  3. Guide and advise them on how to approach their studies.
  4. To make known the means of information and communication that the two areas of Arabic and Hebrew make available to them.
  5. Introduce both the management team and the people who take care of the tutorials.

1st year – 4th year

From this initial session, students can turn to the tutors whenever they want to receive advice or have to solve a problem related to their studies. They can be contacted by email or phone.

2nd - 3rd year

November
Students in the second and third year of the degree are offered an information session on the possibilities of mobility, national and international exchange programs (Sicue, Erasmus, etc.) to make known the characteristics of these programs, their possibilities, as well as some of the possible institutions where they can complete their academic training. They are also informed about the call for collaboration grants with the departments.

4th year

April
Fourth-year students are offered an information session about master's, graduate, and doctoral programs in the field of undergraduate studies and other post-graduate academic options.
