Rosa Ana Alija Fernández
Rosa Ana Alija Fernández is an associate professor in Public International Law at the University of Barcelona. She holds a bachelor’s degree in Law from the University of Oviedo (2000), a master’s degree in International Studies from Pompeu Fabra University (2003) and a European PhD from the University of Barcelona (2010). She gives instruction in a host of UB bachelor’s degrees and master’s degrees and has taught as a visiting professor at a handful of universities in Spain and Latin America (Brazil, Colombia, Puerto Rico and Argentina). She has served as assistant coordinator (2016-2019) and coordinator (2019-2023) of the UB master’s degree in Advanced Legal Studies.
Rosa Ana Alija Fernández’s lines of research focus on international human rights law, transitional justice and international criminal law, and she has participated in and led an assortment of research projects in the listed research areas. She has been a visiting researcher at centres in Latin America and Europe, including Uppsala Universitet, the Georg-August-Universität Göttingen and the Geneva Academy of International Humanitarian Law and Human Rights.
Rosa Ana Alija Fernández is a coordinator of the legal clinic on the fight against impunity (as part of the UB’s Right to Rights programme). She frequently collaborates with NGOs and international institutions, engaging in training and transfer. She is also a member of the Barcelona municipal government’s assessment body for the recognition of victims of Late Francoism (since 2019) and the Government of Catalonia’s technical committee on the recovery and identification of those who were disappeared during the Spanish civil war and the Francoist dictatorship (since 2020).
