Research lines

The doctoral programme in Information and Communication is structured around four large research lines:

El programa de doctorat d’Informació i Comunicació s’articula sobre quatre grans línies de recerca: Studies on the value and use of information, Communication and audiovisual media, Libraries and information services, and Culture and digital content. It should be noted that, in line with the regulations and in order to ensure their scientific feasibility, there is a consolidated research group behind each of these research lines.

These research lines and the sublines into which they unfold are described in more detail below.

This research line tackles issues related to the collaboration, production, gender and communication of scientific production. It unfolds into several sublines:

  • Scientific communication

  • Scientific collaboration, production and assessment

  • Infometrics and bibliometrics

  • Information in healthcare

  • Structure and development of research from a gender perspective

This research line analyzes issues relating to the communicative process, media quality, the function of public service of the media, the role of the media in democratic societies, media discourse, digital skills in the knowledge society, technology and the construction of messages, metanarrative, and the theories of communication and of cultures. It unfolds into several sublines:

This research line deals with issues related to the profile of information professionals, the different kinds of library and information units, user studies and the quality of information services. It unfolds into several sublines:
