Thysen-Bornemisza Museum's virtual reality comes to the University of Barcelona
The hall of the Historical Building of the University of Barcelona will hold, from tomorrow until Friday, the activity “Entrar en el quadre”, in which the public, using virtual reality glasses, will get inside works by Van Gogh, Mondrian and Van der Ast. This mobile initiative, organized by the Thyssen-Bornemisza National Museum, counts on the collaboration of Endesa and is a virtual reality experience to move around three master pieces of the permanent collection of the museum.
This proposal, which is free of charge, will enable visitors move around a tridimensional space in the Auvers fields Van Gogh painted, or the streets of New York which inspired Piet Mondrian, and be surrounded by the insects and flowers of Balthasar van der Ast’s dead nature. By using virtual reality glasses, they can walk around the inside of the paintings and explore the surroundings, while living an unprecedented sensorial experience that will take us to different places. “Entrar en el quadre” was first presented in 2018 in the Thyssen-Bornemisza Museum in Madrid, and has been held in Seville, Ferrol, Palma and Zaragoza.
The opening counted on the attendance of the director-general of Endesa in Catalonia, Isabel Buesa, the managing director of the Thyssen-Bornemisza National Museum, Evelio Acevedo, and the vice-rector for Arts, Culture and Heritage o fthe University of Barcelona, Salvador García Fortes.
The exhibition will be open to the public from the 15th to the 17th of January, from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m., until it reaches maximum capacity. Those interested have to register previously in the website www.entrarenelcuadro.com or visiting the same building during its opening time.
