Highlihts
The Interuniversity Master's Degree in Advanced Studies in Design (UPC‐UB) is a multidisciplinary master's degree where creativity, innovation and research are understood as tools of knowledge and a proposal for the design of the future. The masters degree is conceived in an integral, broad and transversal sense, typical of of made-in-Barcelona design, which has become an international benchmark in the last decades. Its approach proposes new visions on design theory, participatory networking strategies and the most innovative trends in product design. Teaching tasks are developed through design workshops, projects on different topics, research laboratories in materials and technology, collaborative work and in digital manufacture labs, among others.
It is completed in one year (60 credits ECTS), and consists of a common cycle of 15 compulsory credits and another cycle of 30 optional credits, which includes five specializations taught by experts from various centres of reference, such as the Barcelona School of Architecture (ETSAB), Vilanova i la Geltrú School of Engineering (EPSEVG), Terrassa School of Industrial, Aerospace and Audiovisual Engineering (ESEIAAT) of the Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya ∙ BarcelonaTech (UPC); and the Faculty of Fine Arts of the University of Barcelona (UB). The specializations are:
- Contemporary Design (taught in English);
- Design, Innovation and Technology

- Design Research (generic specialization, which covers the previous four).
All specializations end with a specific Master's Final Project (TFM) of 15 credits, which can be oriented to project development or to research. In addition to these five pathways, there are also common optional subjects dealing with business culture, intellectual property and entrepreneurship.
