Objectives and competences
Objectives
The master's degree Direction of Conservation-Restoration Projects is intended to provide holders of bachelor's degrees in heritage conservation and restoration with a Level 3 qualification as established by the Spanish Qualifications Framework for Higher Education, which addresses all qualifications that give students advanced training, either specialized or multidisciplinary, aimed at academic or professional specialization or at preparation for research activities. Students will attain the competences needed to direct conservation and restoration projects with a focus on collections and heritage ensembles. Specifically, they will gain the knowledge, skills and abilities needed to:
- formulate and design conservation and restoration projects, defining the objectives and work methodology;
- determine the physical conditions of works in their context and propose suitable programs for their conservation;
- direct, coordinate and participate in the tasks of multidisciplinary teams engaged in activities of heritage conservation and restoration;
- conduct the research required to obtain a thorough knowledge of works, their physical conditions and the conservation and restoration processes that need to be applied to them;
- disseminate and publish the results obtained.

Competences
On completion of the master's degree, students will possess the following competences in the area of conservation and restoration of collections and heritage ensembles:
- The capacity to lead and work in a multidisciplinary team.
- The capacity to establish analytical study protocols for cultural assets, specifically for the elements of a heritage ensemble in a given context.
- The capacity to establish the conditions required for the preventive conservation of cultural assets and to manage their maintenance.
- The capacity to select and carry out specific programs of treatment and methodologies to ensure the comprehensive conservation of cultural assets, both individual objects and ensembles.
- The capacity to produce orderly and systematic documentation of all stages of a program of treatment.
- The capacity to estimate, plan and manage human, technical and material resources.
- The capacity to apply quality criteria and health, safety and environmental regulations required in workplaces and work procedures.
- The capacity to apply knowledge of the management and functioning of public administrations involved in heritage and cultural assets.
- The capacity to disseminate knowledge acquired from professional practice and research activities.
- The capacity to lead and work in a multidisciplinary team.
