Information for the student – Conservation-Restoration of Cultural Heritage

Final project

The Royal Decree 1393/2007, of October 29th, which establishes the organization of university education, amended by Royal Decree 861/2010, of July 2nd, indicates that the official degree courses are intended to provide students with a general training in one or more disciplines, and are aimed at preparing students for the exercise of professional activities.

 

The TFG is a second semester subject of 12 credits that is part of the curriculum of the degree in Conservation-Restoration of Cultural Heritage. It is defined as an autonomous and individual work that allows the student to show in an integrated way the formative contents and the acquired competences associated to the corresponding degree.

 

Lines and content

The degree proposes a single generic line that covers all types of cultural property and all aspects related to its conservation-restoration.

This line can be specified in different topics such as, for example:

A. Proposals, projects or processes of application to a property or to a typology of Cultural Property.

1. Examination, Diagnosis and Documentation

2. Preventive Conservation

3. Curative Conservation

4. Restoration

5. Deepening of Intervention Techniques.

 

B. Theoretical or theoretical-practical studies on:

1. history, use of artistic materials, classical and modern artistic techniques and procedures and their relation to heritage conservation.

2. History and use of ancient and contemporary conservation-restoration materials.

3. Ancient conservation-restoration interventions.

4. Intervention criteria.

5. Other topics related to the conservation-restoration of heritage.

Enrollment

The TFG can be registered by self-registration in September or during the February registration extension period, as long as the established requirements are met.

Conditions to register for the final thesis:

  • To have passed 180 credits, among which all the basic and compulsory subjects of the first, second and third year must be included.
  • Enroll simultaneously with the TFG the elective and compulsory subjects required to obtain the degree.

Students will enroll in the field or line in which they wish to develop the TFG, taking into account the number of places available.

Recommendations

Students will register for the TFG, taking into account the following recommendations:

1. Before enrolling, consult your academic transcript to find out if you meet the requirements.
2. Consult the specific written report format.
3. Before submitting the TFG, check that you meet the requirement of having passed 228 credits of the degree, according to the study plan. Otherwise, you will not be able to make the defense.
4. If you have enrolled the TFG and you cannot defend it because you do not meet the requirements, ask for an annulment for particular interest, within the established deadlines, to avoid paying the surcharge for second or subsequent enrollment of the subject.
5. Consult the criteria for the writing of undergraduate and master's degree final projects, elaborated by the Language Services.
