Message from the Dean
It is a great pleasure for me to welcome you to the Faculty of Economics and Business of the University of Barcelona. Our Faculty has a long-standing tradition, having been the first centre to train economists in Catalonia, and we now successfully combine tradition and modernity.
The Faculty offers five bachelor's degrees (Business Administration and Management (ADE), Economics, Statistics, Sociology, and International Business), as well as three double degrees (ADE-Law, ADE-Mathematics, and Economics-Statistics). All of our bachelor's degrees have been accredited by the Catalan University Quality Assurance Agency (AQU), and the bachelor's degrees in Economics and Statistics have been awarded the AQU seal of excellence. The Faculty also offers sixteen university master’s degrees and five doctoral programmes.
In the area of research, the Faculty occupies excellent positions in the main national and international rankings in the fields of Economics, Business and Sociology. It hosts more than 150 researchers who carry out internationally renowned quality research which translates into the publication of around 200 articles in JCR journals every year. These researchers are members of institutes and observatories that make up a large proportion of the research groups in the Faculty. Additionally, the Faculty has several thematic chairs, which are managed in collaboration with other institutions and organizations and through which in-depth study and research is carried out on specific topics in a range of knowledge areas.
With more than 9,000 students, 500 lecturers and 100 administrative and service staff, it is a large Faculty with a standing commitment to continuous improvement and quality.
The Faculty's international drive is apparent in our agreements with more than 200 European, American and Asian universities, where students may choose to complete part of their studies.
We also have a leading and extraordinarily dynamic Careers Service, which maintains links with hundreds of companies and institutions willing to host our students as part of curricular placements and organizes regular seminars, company presentations and activities to guide students in their career planning and job searching.
Ramon Alemany
Dean of the Faculty of Economics and Business
