The Department
The Department of Evolutionary Biology, Ecology and Environmental Sciences of the University of Barcelona was created in January 2016 by the merging of the former departments of Animal Biology, Plant Biology and Ecology. It is currently structured into four units: the Botany and Mycology Unit, the Ecology Unit, the Plant Physiology Unit and the Zoology and Biological Anthropology Unit, each of which focuses its teaching and research activity within the areas of knowledge that are competent to them.
The activity of the Department ranges from phylogeny and taxonomy to biomedicine, plant improvement or management and restoration of ecosystems, including conservation biology, human evolution, forest ecology, marine biology, ecotoxicology, animal behaviour or biogeography. Many of the teaching and research staff at the Department are linked to different research institutes.
