Multidisciplinary approach for a reliable basin modelling
Simulation is the art of combining physics, mathematics, soil-mechanical engineering, and computer programming. The numerical modelling of complex geological environments always has inherent uncertainties. Nonetheless, the necessary input data required to minimize these uncertainties could not be available. So, how can we deal with and trust our model results? A good management of the available data, the understanding of the involved geological processes and uncertainty analysis are key to successfully accomplish the hard work of modelling the reality. Here, we will revisit different types of field input data and laboratory test, proceeding techniques and software. For a better understanding of problems that can arise during the modelling process, some examples in different geological settings will be shown.
