Learning objectives

Referring to knowledge

— Describe and discuss the contrasting notions of autonomy and heteronomy in human communities of different kinds.

— Define and refer to the notion of community that is informed by a critical understanding of the ideological basis of society.

— Use alternative concepts to describe realities, focusing on the notions of territory, population, group and associative movement, and discuss social networks as a means to overcome different communities’ limitations.

 

 

Referring to abilities, skills

— Describe and discuss the transition from individual to community narratives and use conversation as a design for joint activities.

— Manage communication skills in multi-party situations characterized by complex conflicts.

— Identify and apply the legal procedures that inform community mediation and recognize the relationship between mediation processes and the court system.

Respect and care for and emotionally and narratively accompany people in their personal reflection process

—Promote listening to others with interest and acceptance of other people’s narratives

—Stimulate the joint construction of interpretations and agreements in a relational space of complicity and trust

Official assessment of learning outcomes

Continuous assessment

Students wishing to opt for the single assessment system must apply for this in writing at the end of the first day of class, using the form provided.

The marks are organized as follows:

— A test on community mediation law (40% of the final mark).

— An exercise in which the students describe and discuss the community mediation process (60% of the final mark).

Students must attend at least 80% of the classes.

Plagiarism

Any test or assessed assignment in which written or electronic material has been copied or plagiarised will be considered an irregularity, and as such will be given the mark 0 (according to the Regulations governing course plans for subjects and the assessment and marking of learning outcomes).

Distinction

The grade Distinction ("Matrícula d’honor") may be awarded when a student scores a mark of between 9.1 and 10 (see Article 16.9 of the UB’s Regulations).

Examination-based assessment

Students wishing to opt for the single assessment system must apply for this in writing at the end of the first day of class, using the form provided.

The single evaluation will consist of the following activities:

— A written examination on the course theory.
— The analysis of a practical example of a community mediation process.

Repeat assessment

Only students who failed the first call may resit the examination. The repeat assessment consists of a written exam on community mediation law and the analysis of a practical example of a community mediation process.
