THEY ARE NEITHER HARMLESS NOR HELP TO QUIT SMOKING: THE IMPACT OF VAPERS ON HEALTH

Your health, first. May 2023

One of the most current and controversial topics when talking about smoking cessation is the impact of new smoking devices, such as vapes and electronic cigarettes. Their use has expanded rapidly because they are accompanied by the idea that they are an effective alternative to smoking cessation. However, it has already been shown that this is not true; on the contrary, they can be the gateway to tobacco consumption.

The first electronic cigarettes began to be marketed in Spain in 2016, so there have not yet been any studies investigating their long-term effects. However, it can already be said that they have harmful effects in the short term. In fact, substances classified as carcinogens have been found in these products, specifically in the liquids and aerosols they serve. Attempts have been made to associate these products with the idea that water vapour is harmless, but we must be aware that these products do not generate vapour, but aerosol, i.e. small solid particles suspended in a gas which, when inhaled, can easily become trapped in our lungs.
Remember that, although these products may not contain nicotine, they are not free of other harmful substances that may be released when they are used.
