Description
When we go shopping, many times we simply look at the visual or economic aspect of a product. However, we need to assess many other related aspects, such as the energy consumption required to manufacture it, the resources used and the waste generated as a result of its use. It is therefore a question of paying attention to the entire life cycle of the product.
A very useful tool that can help us in our purchasing decisions is whether that product has an environmental label or certification.
What can I do?
- Choose products that have an environmental label or certification.
- Choose products that are long-lasting and/or reusable. This will reduce the energy and resources needed to produce new ones.
- Try to avoid buying single-use products, as this implies a high increase in the consumption of resources.
- Buy products that generate little waste. Avoid buying products with unnecessary packaging.
- Choose products made from recycled materials and/or recyclable materials.
