Bee-Path is a tool to study human mobility through its record by a mobile devices application. The application is activated in specific contexts. It offers an automated analysis of the type of mobility done by the user and proposes mathematical models to explain the observed phenomena, so that, in the future, mobility in certain contexts could be predicted. Bee-Path is the result of a multidisciplinary team involving physicists, biologists and artists.
Bee-Path is carried out with the direct, voluntary and conscious participation of citizens. It maintains a direct communication with users and makes available the research results. It also offers experiments open code and data for those who wish to make use of the resources generated.
The first Bee-Path experiment was held during the weekend of 16 and 17 June 2012, as part of the Festa de la Ciència i la Tecnologia at the Park of Ciutadella in Barcelona, organized by Culture Institute of Barcelona and that received the visit of some 12,000 people.
At the 2013 edition of the Festa de la Ciència i la Tecnologia, the experiment was repeated, but adding a further degree of complexity as the participants had to search objects while moving. Experiencies in 2014 include a mobility analysis within Big Bang Data space exhibition.
