Colombian composer and sound artist, sound engineer and documentary producer. Professor of sound art and sound for interactive systems in several institutions in Barcelona. He is currently professor of the Master’s Degree in Sound Art at the University of Barcelona. Between 1998 and 2014 he was co-director of the Chaos Orchestra and its Sonoscop research platform, as well as the Zeppelin sound art festival; projects associated with the Barcelona Center for Contemporary Culture.
For more than 15 years his work has focused on acoustic ecology, a context in which he is developing research, training and dissemination projects in Europe and Latin America, especially in Colombia, his home country. These projects focus on working in territories where drastic systemic changes are expected in the short to medium term, caused by economic development. The purpose of these processes is to develop tools, both educational and technological with communities, that allow us to expand the thresholds of knowledge about these processes of change and the ways in which we can measure them. Professor and founding member of IDATbcn, Institute of Art and Technological Design of Barcelona. Between 2013 and 2016 he was director of the research line on advanced interaction at the Institute of Advanced Architecture of Catalonia, IAAC.
His work as a creator focuses on sound installation, electroacoustic composition, research on soundscape and the development of platforms for sound diffusion in space, recurring themes in his work, as a professor and as director of postgraduate research projects in art, science and technology.
In the field of sound design he has made several collaborations with creators from different contexts; It should be noted the collaboration with: Toni Serra / Abu Ali in the exhibition “Fes Ciutat Interior” Barcelona City Award 2002 and Mireia Sallarès with the project Kao malo vodenadlanu (like some water in the palm of the hand), a project on love in Serbia during the last Balkan War, Barcelona City Award 2019.
