dernier pape pour qui la croisade fut une question vital et non
pas seulement un moyen politique d'assurer son prestige."
pp. 27-8 - Church & Héthoum I of Armenia both interested in
getting Mongols as allies vs. muslims of Near East.
p. 28 - At end of 13th C. Franciscans established in convents
of "Siwas en Grande-Arménie et de Sis en Petite-Arménie".
Héthoum II very sympathetic to them, wants to use them as bridge between
Armenians & Latins. He even dressed as Franciscan when,
together with his ally, Khazan of Persia, he inflicted terrible
defeat of Homs (22-23- Dec. 1303) on Sarrasins. (p. 29) On
prétend qu'il célébra la fête de Pâques, après la victoire
d'Homs, dans Jérusalem reconquise une dernière fois et que
pendant quelques jours au moins, la Terre Sainte fut entre ses
mains (Golubovich, Biblioteca II, pp. 129-130 (num. 6). (p. 28) W/Héthoum II
"la vocation monastique et la vocation royale furent en conflit
permanent". (p. 29) Abdicated 3 (maybe 4) times. His cousin, Héthoum,
prince of Gorigos, retired to convent of Premonstrants on Cyprus,
critical of king as unstable. But good diplomat - married
sisters to Byzantine princes. (p. 31) Spirituals (Angelo et al.)
arrive in Armenia probably 1290; return 1294. In Cyprus (and in
Armenia) serious problems between spirituals & conventuals after
fall of Acre.
p. 45 - Interest of Franciscans (& of Joachim da Fiore) in Greeks
and in union of Greek and Latin churches (cf. p. 23).

Arnold of Vilanova, (p. 94 n. 28) interesting note on Ubertino da Casa

p. 111 - early 1313, Angelo - who until then has been in Avignon
- leaves for visit to Philip in Majorca. Epiphany in Montpellier, then spends 50
days in Majorca. (p. 112) "Vers la fin de l'hiver, Angelo revint à
Avignon"; writes a letter from there 3 April.
pp. 113-114 - summer 1313, some 40 Spirituals flee from
persecutions in Tuscany & go to Sicily. Their petition to
Frederic printed in Finke, Acta Aragonensia II, 661-6.
p. 142 - Philip of Majorca & new order.
p. 210 - Angelo compares "les arts funestes d'Aristote aux plaies
d'Égypte" & had little sympathy for Saint Bonaventure.
p. 223 - Ch. XLVIII of Fioretti reproduces "textuellement" a
passage of the Historia septem tribulationum where Sant
Bonaventure appears with nails trying to tear flesh of visionary!
p. 240 - death of self ideal of Greek monastic rule of Jean
Climaque, monk of Sinai, in Scala Paradisi translated by Angelo.
p. 274 - distinction between spirituals (or zelanti) and
fraticelli in sense of taking latters as followers of Michael of
Cesena. (p. 293) Also distinguished by calling first "fraticelli
de paupere vita", & michalists as "fraticelli de opinione".
