CATclub

CATclub is a meeting space for international students interested in finding out about Catalan language and culture during their time at the UB and local students who volunteer to support them. If you’re an exchange student, CATclub offers a range of activities for practising Catalan, cultural activities to learn more about Barcelona and Catalonia, and social events where you can meet other UB students; a wide range of opportunities to integrate into university life and feel at home in Barcelona. And if you’re a local student, the dynamic is basically the same, but with the roles reversed.

The activities are organized and supported by the Language Services and are free, fun and stimulating! We’re confident that CATclub will be one of the best experiences you have in Barcelona. Don’t miss out!

CATclub organizes a series of free cultural activities open to all UB students, providing the ideal platform for non-formal language learning. It isn’t the same as a language class or course, but helps to consolidate formal learning.

By taking part in the activities – all of which are carried out in Catalan – exchange students have the opportunity to practise their speaking and listening skills in a relaxed environment.

As well as providing a platform for practising Catalan, CATclub contributes to the integration of exchange students and helps to build a community of local and international students.

Imagine you arrive in Barcelona, you’re welcomed in one of the most emblematic buildings in the city, shown around its most important spaces, taken to some of the best known sites in the centre and the surrounding areas by exceptionally knowledgeable guides (lecturers and researchers from the University itself), given an introduction to the local language and customs…
This is what we offer.

Because at CATclub we think, eat, listen, sleep, have fun, grow, drink, learn, walk, look, laugh, let loose… in Catalan!
Our blog describes all the activities we carry out – you’re sure to find something that interests you.

If you’re an exchange student, you can practise Catalan and find about more about Barcelona and Catalan culture. If you’re a local student, you’ll take part as a Catalan language volunteer and will also have the chance to accompany us during cultural activities. But CATclub is about much more than just language and culture: you’ll also find community, integration, friendship and fun!

  1. The Language Services organize CATclub meetings every Thursday evening. You don’t need to come all the time – just to the ones you want.
  2. If you’re a UB student and want to join CATclub, just fill in the form below.
  3. Before each meeting you’ll be sent an email with more information and instructions about how to sign up.
  1. To take part you must be enrolled in a bachelor’s degree, university master’s degree or doctoral programme at the UB (including affiliated centres) or registered on a course taught by the EIM or the Language Services.
  2. Once you’ve sent the completed form you’re a member of CATclub and will receive an email before each scheduled activity.
  3. Places are limited and must be reserved in advance. If too many people sign up and the meeting is full, a waiting list will be drawn up. It is important to let us know in advance if you won’t be able to come so that we can offer your place to another student.
  4. If you’re an exchange student, we assume that you’re interested in learning Catalan and have already completed a course or are taking one now. If you’re a local student, we’d ask you to make sure you stick to the language during meetings.
  5. The database of participants is updated at the beginning of each academic year.

CATclub blog

Hey! If you’re reading this, you must be interested in CATclub. Perhaps you can’t read Catalan yet – maybe you can’t work out what the activities described here will involve… But let me tell you a secret: you can always use an automatic translation. It might generate a few strange errors, but it can help you to understand what we’re explaining. And if that doesn’t help, check out the photos to get an idea.
