The project focuses on the study of the spaces of power in medieval and modern Catalonia through two emblematic archaeological sites: the Hospitaller Feminine Monastery of Santa Maria d'Alguaire and the Royal Palace of Valldaura. This research combines archeology with the analysis of written texts and the study of the landscape. The idea was born from reflection on the site of Els Altimiris, located on the northern slope of the Montsec d'Ares mountain range with a chronology (end of the 5th century - beginning of the 9th century), which has led us to consider the occupational reality of mountain areas in this period that we can call protomedieval. The project aims to analyze the changes in population, the exploitation of resources and the evolution of the historical landscape that occurred in the area of the Catalan Pre-Pyrenees during late antiquity and the medieval period. For its realization, we will combine archaeological interventions with the use of advanced prospecting technologies and documentary sources. The project aims to study the spaces of power in medieval and modern Catalonia through two unique archaeological sites: the Hospitaller Feminine Monastery of Santa Maria d'Alguaire and the Royal Palace of Valldaura. We do this through archaeology, but also through the study of written texts and the analysis of the landscape.
