AQR-IREA is pleased to announce the 2022 Barcelona Workshop on Regional and Urban Economics, to be held in Barcelona on October 6th – 7th, 2022.
The workshop, under the title The economics of a pandemic. Lessons from COVID-19, will focus on the analysis of the evolution of the COVID-19 pandemic and its relationship with the characteristics of regions and cities, the influence of demographic, environmental, institutional and socioeconomic factors in the spread of the pandemic, its economic impact, and the effect of non-pharmaceutical policy interventions (lockdowns, remote work, etc.). The aim of the workshop is to take stock of the analyses carried out so far, assess what has been learned, compare it with what we knew from previous pandemics, and draw conclusions and implications that may be useful in the case of future pandemics. Likewise, issues related to the availability and quality of data related to the incidence of the COVID-19 and its impact on the economy, and the characteristics and effectiveness of the policies designed to stimulate the economy in the pandemic and post-pandemic period, will be discussed.
The workshop will include the presentation and discussion of various studies by invited speakers and a round table with the participation of scholars and policy makers.
