ResearchGate and copyright

ResearchGate could be consolidated as a platform for connection and exchange between authors. However, the editors of scientific journals point out the transgression of the copyrights of many of the articles published in this platform.

After attempts to reach an agreement with ResearchGate and make their service compatible with copyright, several information analysis companies and scientific and academic editors have joined the Coalition for Responsible Sharing.

On the one hand, they argue the importance of scientific journals as mediators in the creation of knowledge. On the other, they state that ResearchGate is taking high quality content written and published by others with copyright (40% of the total content).

Undoubtedly, we are faced with a reality with diverse interests: those of the publishing industry, those of scientists (who want/need to publish in indexed journals and at the same time disseminate their articles in an open manner) and platforms such as ResearchGate, which put contact the needs of academics (dissemination and access to articles) without having one of the actors, the editors.
