A group of researchers and professors from the Faculties of Education and Librarianship of the University of Barcelona, all of them members of the research group in History, Geography and other Social Sciences (DHiGeCs) have been awarded the competitive project called ‘EDUMEMÒRIES: La memòria als currículums i llibres de text a Catalunya (1978-2018)’ in the call promoted by the Institut Català Internacional per la Pau (ICIP) and managed by AGAUR.
Researchers from the Georg Eckert Institute for the study of textbooks will also participate in the project: Dr. Steffen Sammler, researcher at the Eckert Institut, professor at the University of Leipzig and specialist in the history of textbooks and recent history in post-transnational countries; Dr. Marcus Otto, also a researcher at the Eckert Institut, professor at the University of Bielefeld and specialist in textbook analysis methodology who has developed projects on the teaching of memory in Germany; and the researcher of the European Observatory of Memories (EUROM) Ricard Conesa, who is developing his doctoral thesis on memory in Catalonia.
The project formalizes a line of work and networking that has been developed with the Eckert Institute of Germany on teaching history in textbooks and that so far has resulted in PhD students from the UB sharing their research at the Eckert Institute and collaborative articles published in academic journals and in drafting process. On the other hand, it also extends the work with the European Observatory of Memories.
