Gustavo Mesch: “Investing in research is a political decision”

Gustavo Mesch, sociologist and rector of the University of Haifa in Israel, aims his vision on the research and the function of the university studies.

Understand that the key to achieving good results in the university “is to encourage research, innovation in research and insertion in sciences at the global level. Play in the system of international publications”.

On the other hand, he argues the need to relate university studies with the digital reality in which they develop and the labor demand: “The great challenge we have is to train people who can go to the market and be above the existing technology. There is room for philosophy, history, psychology, sociology, political science, but these people have to leave also with training to be able to insert themselves in management positions in companies where they can manipulate data and order them to make decisions.”
