Due date: 30 January 2024
This next issue of the Revista Catalana de Pedagogia (RCP) is dedicated to putting on the table the potential of Artificial Intelligence (IA) technologies in education. With ephemerescence since the late 2022s of applications such as Chat GPT, based on the Large Language Models (LLM) generative type AI has been seen as a possible revulsant at many levels of human activity, and this has aroused great interest in its possible implications for education.
AI has the ability to respond to some of the greatest challenges facing the field of education today, and to develop innovative teaching and learning practices, as well as to accelerate progress in achieving SDGs, among others. However, these advances inevitably involve numerous risks and challenges that the policy discussions and regulatory frameworks have not yet resolved.
The deployment of AI technologies in education must aim at improving human capabilities and protecting human rights with a view to effective cooperation between humans and machines in life, learning and work, as well as in favour of sustainable development. In pedagogy, we must opt for an AI ethical logic.
From this point of view, we welcome research work on AI in education, as well as educational experiences that focus on its application, both in formal, non-formal and socio-educational educational establishments, and in media training contexts, on education policies, on social sector management and the most vulnerable and disadvantaged environments.
Some of the possible topics for publication in this call are:
- The customization of AI-based learning and adaptive learning, smart tutorials and self-regulated learning using AI-based programs.
- The use of AI to facilitate assessment and feedback processes for learning.
- Studies on the processes of collaboration and/or human-II interaction for learning.
- Support for the development of critical thinking and the reinforcement of dialogic and reflexive processes through AI.
- IA-person collaboration in writing, synthesis and analysis of content, read comprehension, rapid development, pedagogical design of learning activities or didactic units, etc.
- Digital and AI competitions, review and update digital competition frameworks, curricular and classroom integration.
- The creation of generative AI chatbots for educational purposes and for the promotion of computational thinking.
- The use of AI and academic integrity, AI regulatory regulations, authorship and AI and ethical aspects.
- Education for identifying algorithmic biases and risks associated with AI.
- Support in research processes (data analysis and processing), and training for research using AI applications.
- The AI for the facilitation of creative, artistic, STEAME and communication processes.
- The AI implementation for improving administrative processes in education (student care, schedule and reminders, enrolment support, assistant, etc.).
- Accessibility and AI.
Particularly welcome will be those contributions that significantly enrich the corpus of theoretical and scientific knowledge, especially in the field of rigorous and quality research. In addition, contributions with international cooperation will be particularly welcome. International contributions are considered to be those whose authorship consists of authors from institutions in different countries.
Articles can be submitted in Catalan or English. The papers accepted by the journal will be published in one of the following sections:
- Research articles: they must have a maximum length of 8,000 words and a minimum of 4,500 words. They need to be adjusted to the following sections: introduction, material and methods, results, conclusions and discussion, and bibliography.
- Experience articles: they must have an extension of between 4,000 and 5,000 words. They must be adjusted to the following sections: introduction, context of the proposal, proposal for intervention, conclusions/discussion and bibliography.
