David Winter
After studying psychology and clinical psychology at the Universities of Durham, and Newcastle upon Tyne, I spent most of my working life practising as a clinical psychologist and personal construct psychotherapist in the English National Health Service, where I headed clinical psychology services for over 35 years. I was Programme Director for the Doctorate in Clinical Psychology at the University of Hertfordshire, where I am currently Professor Emeritus in Clinical Psychology, and I have held visiting positions at various universities internationally, including Visiting Professor at the Universities of Padua and Bicocca University Milan; Brotherton Fellow at the University of Melbourne; Principal Fellow at the University of Wollongong; and Visiting Lecturer at the Universities of Barcelona, Belgrade, and Bergamo. My major research interests concern clinical applications of personal construct psychology, psychotherapy research, radicalisation, and the psychological effects of civil war, and I have over 170 publications in these areas. My books include Winter, D.A. (1992). Personal Construct Psychology in Clinical Practice: Theory, Research and Applications. London: Routledge and Winter, D.A., Brown, R., Goins, S., and Mason, C. (2016). Trauma, Survival and Resilience in War Zones; The Psychological Impact of War in Sierra Leone and Beyond. Hove: Routledge.
