Unraveling the Formation of Ternary AgCuSe Crystalline Nanophases and Their Potential as Antibacterial Agents

An international work lead by Laboratory of Nanostructured and Nanocomposite Materials (LM2N), in a highlighted collaboration with Supra and Nanostructured Systems Group (SuNS) and Laboratory of Electron Nanoscopies (LENS)- Micro and Nanotechnology and nanoscopies for Electronic and Electrophotonic devices (MIND) has unravelled the formation of two ternary AgCuSe crystalline nanophases through a colloidal cation exchange method at room temperature. Interestingly, these ternary materials show promising antibacterial activity, higher than that recently observed for pure Ag NPs, as concluded from their experiments with Gram-positive bacteria.
