La força motriu del grup de Nanomalaria és el compromís personal d’aplicar la nanomedicina a malalties infeccioses de pobresa mitjançant diverses línies d’investigació: (i) Exploració de diferents tipus d’estructures encapsulants (liposomes, polímers sintètics i naturals), dirigides a molècules (proteïna, polisacàrid, aptàmers d’àcids nucleics) i compostos antipalúdics (per exemple, noves estructures derivades d’organismes marins i pèptids antimicrobians) per al muntatge de nanovectors capaços de subministrar la seva càrrega de fàrmac amb total especificitat a les cèl·lules infectades. (ii) Estudi de les vies metabòliques presents a Plasmodium però absents en humans, amb l’objectiu d’identificar enzims específics com a dianes terapèutiques. (iii) Ús de glicosaminoglicans per a estratègies antipalúdiques innovadores. (iv) Disseny de nous mètodes per al lliurament de fàrmacs dirigit a les etapes de Plasmodium en el vector mosquit. (v) Investigació de nous fàrmacs contra malalties transmeses per insectes que funcionen mitjançant mecanismes radicalment nous. (vi) Extensió de les nostres activitats a noves patologies (leishmaniosi).
