IMCITIZEN INTERNATIONAL WEBINAR

Child Participation Platforms

Active citizens in decision-making

Recordings of the Webinar Sessions

The first session of the international IMCITIZEN webinar looked at children's rights and their participation in decision-making from different perspectives.

The aim was to emphasise the importance of empowering children to participate actively in democratic life and to highlight their ability to influence the decisions that affect them.

During the session, participants shared their experiences, challenges and achievements in implementing child participation initiatives at the local level, demonstrating the transformative impact that child participation has on both children and their communities.

The second session of the international IMCITIZEN webinar featured children, representatives of the IMCITIZEN Participation Platforms, who presented their proposals for improving participation at local level.

It was a particularly important day to listen to (and learn from) children's ideas for improving their communities and advocating for their rights.

They also presented the strategies they worked on in their Platforms, explaining how they are organised themselves and the key actions they are taking to ensure their voices are heard.

The third and final session of the international IMCITIZEN webinar featured Professor Laura Lundy, Co-Director of the Centre for Children's Rights and Professor of Education Law at Queen's University, Belfast.

Dr Lundy is internationally recognised for her work on child participation, particularly the Lundy Model of Child Participation.

The conference focused on providing keys to promoting children's participation at European level. Dr Lundy emphasised the importance of creating spaces where children's voices are not only heard, but also acted upon, and explained the key elements of child participation: space, voice, audience and influence. She also presented real-life examples of how these concepts are applied in practice.

IMCITIZEN International Webinar

Purpose and goals

The webinar aims to disseminate and report on the project's progress, as well as to share ideas and experiences for integrating child participation in decision-making at local, national, and European levels.

It also aims to be a space for sharing the experiences of educational and participatory actions developed throughout the project, while addressing the challenges we face and proposing solutions to overcome them and make further progress in the exercise of children's democratic citizenship.
