PLATFORMS CO-DESIGN PROCESS
Reactivating contact with IMCITIZEN groups
We reached out to the key group to introduce the new phase of the project, confirm the commitment to ongoing collaboration, and coordinate efforts to engage the children who expressed interest in joining the co-design group for the Participation Platform.
Sharing the purpose of the space with families and other stakeholders
We organised a meeting with families to introduce the challenge of creating an IMCITIZEN Platform, conducting it in the form of an interview. Children ask questions to two representatives from IMCITIZEN's local partners, who, through their responses, explain the project. In the end, the audience can clarify doubts and share proposals.
Forming the Platform's co-design groups
With the steering group in place, we define with the children why they want to be part of IMCITIZEN and what issues they would like to address in the Platform. This process helps establish a common challenge: collaboratively creating a Children's Participation Platform within the school.
Uncovering the potentialities of the participatory group
Exploring ways to define how the group will operate
We formulate questions on key aspects of group functioning within the Platform to send to groups with expertise in participation and children who are part of the Platform's collaboration or friendship group. Their answers will help us define the structure and functioning of our Platform.
Designing the logo and merchandising of the Platform
We design distinctive items, such as a logo and some merchandise products. We create the logo in an individual ideation process or small groups, presenting them for selection by discussion or voting. Additionally, we choose merchandise items from a list of proposals and prioritise them according to a set of indicators, which include the allocated budget.
Drafting the reference document for the Platform: the rules of procedure
We draft the reference document for the Platform using the World Café technique. We set up as many tables as there are topics to be addressed, placing information and powerful questions on each. The process consists of two parts. In the first one, we contribute to each topic in small groups. In the second, each group becomes an expert on a topic, summarizes it, and prioritizes proposals to present to all members of the Platform.
Introducing the Platform to the community
As a follow-up to the process, we allocate a space to think about ways to introduce the Platform to the community. We devise communication strategies to build connections with other participation groups and promote and present the Platform, raising awareness about its significance among the citizenry.
